Same rules, different councils
The electrical safety rules for landlords and businesses are the same across England, so they don't change from one town to the next. What does vary is local licensing, which is set by each council.
Nottingham City Council
- Additional HMO licensing has covered the whole city since January 2024. Applications ask for an EICR, PAT records, and fire alarm and emergency lighting certificates. Council page
- Selective licensing applies to rented homes in a designated part of the city from 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2028. Designation notice
Our guide to HMO electrical and fire safety in Nottingham covers the licence documents in more detail.
Other councils in our area
If your property is outside the city, licensing is run by your district or borough council. Check with them for any scheme that applies.
