What changes on your EICR
The model report has been updated. The FI code now reads "further investigation is advised" instead of "required without delay", and it no longer affects whether the report is satisfactory. Only C1 or C2 make a report unsatisfactory. See EICR codes explained, including why landlords should still act on FI items within 28 days.
Does my existing report still count?
Yes. A report is valid until the next inspection date it recommends, or five years for rented homes in England, whichever is sooner. A new amendment doesn't make earlier reports invalid. The rental regulations refer to the 18th edition of the Wiring Regulations, which includes its amendments.
Changes for new installation work
The IET lists several technical changes, including a new chapter on battery energy storage, rules for Power over Ethernet, and a revised section on medical locations. Industry bodies also report a new requirement for arc fault detection devices (AFDDs) on socket circuits in new work in HMOs, care homes, high-rise residential buildings and purpose-built student accommodation. That affects new work and alterations, not existing installations being inspected.
The AFDD detail comes from an industry certification body, not the standard's text, and is awaiting professional review.
